Tell me i was a choice you made

Tell me i was a choice you made

if i let you hold my heart do you promise

to be gentle? please do not squeeze

around me like a dog’s twisted teeth.

leave fingerprints if you wish but try not

to bruise too deeply. i am fragile in a way

that curses my youth. i am sensitive so

please do not bite. if you ever get

the urge, dig your claws into my back,

but try not to draw blood or i might

stain your fingertips. i do not want to

mark you with anything but love.

i do not want to trap you here.

you should roam freely, meet new

people, make new friends. just say

goodbye before you go. tell me i

filled you with stardust the way you

did me. tell me i meant more than

nothing. tell me i was good enough

for you to choose to hold me, like

i chose to let you hold my heart.
