Submissions for 2025-26
While Howler always appreciates beautiful works of staggering genius in any of the below categories (fiction, poetry, scripts, see general submission guidelines, why are you still reading), we’re especially looking for pieces on theme this year.

Give us your art, your writing, your best grown pieces of you.
Seeds of doubt. The ocean of you. Understories beneath the forest canopy—all of it is art in its own way. We want poems to grow out of your mouth; we want stories to flood the pages and explore the depths of complex emotion. We want art. We want nature. We want the different levels of your sea and land. We want you to take your art outside and bring it back in—then submit it to us.
General Submission Guidelines
Fiction
We are looking for prose, intricate threads of thought, quiet murmurs from the human heart. Submit short stories under 3,000 words.
Poetry
We want poems that make us stop and ponder the contour of clouds. Poems that reach through the page to wipe away our tears. Poems that wear their hearts on their sleeves. We accept both traditional and contemporary poetry. Poems of all length are accepted.
Creative Nonfiction
We seek nonfiction that settles on the tongue like a story, leaving an aftertaste of authenticity, of memories meaningful enough to consume again. Submit works under 3,000 words.
Interactive Storytelling
Immerse us in a world of your creation. Submit links from Twine or other interactive websites.
Screenplay
Screenplays within ten pages are most likely to be considered for publication. Screenplays must be properly formatted before submission.
Visual Arts
(This year’s theme). Multiple submissions are welcomed. We accept photography (sculptures, nature, people, etc), drawings, paintings, and digital art. Most files are welcomed, but files with better quality are more likely to be accepted.

Miscellaneous Guidelines
Both writing and visual art must be appropriate for Neshaminy High School. Contact our Submissions Editor should there be any questions regarding the appropriateness of a certain theme or work. Howler Literary Magazine does not tolerate hate speech or plagiarism of any kind.
